Ethics Violations
As a REALTOR®, you voluntarily belong to a local, state & national association and subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics. Article 1 of the Code of Ethics requires that REALTORS® “pledge themselves to protect and promote the interests of their client. This obligation to the client is primary, but it does not relieve you of your obligation to treat all parties honestly.”
The Professional Standards Department is responsible for administering the enforcement of the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® among our membership.
If you are thinking about filing an ethics complaint against a REALTOR® member please read, Before You File an Ethics Complaint, it explains the process and will answer many of your questions.
If you are a non-member, and after you’ve read “Before You File an Ethics Complaint” you feel you need help forming your complaint, please contact Laura Sallie, the Professional Standards Administrator at Laura@gniar.com and a member of the Grievance Committee will be assigned to provide procedural assistance to form the complaint in proper form and with proper content. This person will only provide procedural assistance and is not representing you or advocating on your behalf, nor will they be part of the committee reviewing your complaint.
To file an ethics complaint, please contact Laura Sallie at laura@gniar.com.

Once a complaint is filed, it is reviewed by the Indiana Association of REALTORS® Grievance Committee. The Grievance Committee is charged with reviewing ethics complaints to determine whether a complaint will be referred for hearing. They must ask themselves this question, “if the facts alleged in the complaint were taken as true on their face, is it possible that a violation of the Code of Ethics occurred?” If the answer to that question is “yes” and all other relevant questions have been answered to the satisfaction of the Grievance Committee, they shall refer the complaint to the Professional Standards Committee for a hearing by an ethics Hearing Panel.
If your complaint is dismissed as not requiring a hearing, you can appeal that dismissal to the Executive Committee of the Indiana Association of REALTORS®, facilitated by the Professional Standards Administrator, Laura Sallie.
